Okuma Releases the new Andros 5 Narrow Reel for NZ Spring

Okuma andros 5nsThe Okuma Andros 5 Narrow is a new reel for 2013/14 out of the CD Rods Stable in Auckland. It is a small reel that offers high performance and exceptional value for money. This size of reel is perfect for light jigging (particularly with it’s narrow spool design) and is ideal for 30lb Braided line.

These reels are surprisingly powerful for the size. It features a low lying body getting the reel as close to the rod as possible increasing sensitivity and stability while fishing (particularly useful when mechanical jigging), and comes with a 5 year manufacturers warranty.

These reels will probably compete with the likes of the Shimano Trinadad 12A – but with a bit more maximum drag, or the Daiwa Saltist 20 Lever drag – both with similar line capacities.
In my eyes these will be  great for Hauraki Gulf Kingfish or large snapper fishing and the double dog anti-reverse setup is a nice safety measure.
They will retail in New Zealand for $399 Kiwi which is a great price, and Top Catch seems have the first shipment of these in the country.
